§ 10-49. Residence policy for firemen.

  • (a)

    Any fireman hired by the city after April 1, 1978 shall either be a resident of the city at the time he is employed or shall be a resident of the city within a period of twelve (12) months and thirty (30) days from the date of his original appointment as a probationary fire officer.

    (b)

    Any fireman living in the city limits on April 18, 1978 shall not be allowed to move outside the city limits and any fireman or policeman presently living outside the city limits who changes his residence shall be required to move into the city limits rather than moving to a different residence outside of the city limits.

    (c)

    It shall be the general policy of the city that all fire department members shall be encouraged to move into the city limits if they resided outside of the city limits as of April 18, 1978 because of prior policies of the city.

    (d)

    Any fireman who fails to comply with subsections (a) or (b) of this section shall be considered in violation of the rules and regulations of his department and shall be subject to disciplinary action by the board of fire and police commission.
