§ 13-14. Certain weeds, plants declared nuisance.

  • (a)

    Obnoxious weeds. Any weeds such as jimson, burdock, ragweed, thistle, cocklebur, or other weeds of a like kind, found growing in any lot or tract of land in the city are hereby declared to be a nuisance, and it shall be unlawful to permit any such weeds to grow or remain in any such place.

    (b)

    Grass, etc., exceeding certain height. It shall be unlawful for anyone to permit weeds, grass or plants, other than trees, bushes, flowers or other ornamental plants to grow to a height exceeding eight (8) inches anywhere in the city; any such plants exceeding such height are hereby declared to be a nuisance.

    (c)

    Hedges, etc., exceeding certain height. It shall be a nuisance and unlawful to allow any hedge, weeds, bushes, plants or other growing vegetation to exceed a height of thirty (30) inches above the street grade within twenty (20) feet of any street intersection.

    (d)

    Native prairie grass. The growing of native prairie grass shall be allowed on those lots designated as Non-Urban in the City of Effingham Zoning Ordinance No. 44-89, and official Zoning Map, as amended from time to time, provided that the lot being so designated is not less than two (2) acres in area.
