§ 2-222. Membership; terms.

  • (a)

    The City of Effingham Tourism Advisory Board shall consist of up to thirteen (13) voting members who shall be appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the city council. The initial appointments to such board shall provide for an initial one-year term for three (3) members, an initial two-year term for four (4) members, and an initial three-year term for four (4) members. Thereafter, members shall serve three-year terms, with such terms to be staggered to provide that each year the term of either three (3) or four (4) members shall expire.

    (b)

    The board shall be comprised of individuals who represent various businesses or enterprises within the city such as hotels and motels, fraternal organizations, restaurants, recreation (both for profit and non-profit), the Greater Effingham Chamber of Commerce, liquor establishments, the Transportation Celebration, and retail businesses.

    (c)

    Terms of office shall begin on May 1 of each year, and in the event of a vacancy, the vacancy shall be filed for the unexpired term by appointment of the mayor with the advice and consent of the city council. All members shall either be a resident of the city or reside within twelve (12) miles of the corporate limits of the city.

    (d)

    In addition to the members appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the city council, the Executive Director of the Effingham Convention and Visitors Bureau employed by the city council shall be an ex officio voting member of the board and shall be entitled to participate in discussions and deliberations of the board along with the appointed board members.
