§ 2-377. Position vacancy and announcement.

  • The City of Effingham will endeavor to recruit the most competent and qualified individual to fill a vacant and/or newly created position.

    All vacant and newly created full-time positions, not governed by the board of fire and police commission, will be posted internally in all city facilities to insure current employees have an opportunity to apply for the position. Said vacancy(s) will also be advertised through the local paper, state, national job posting services, social media blasts, and various websites.

    Vacancies in full-time positions within the city may be filled by the promotion or transfer of a current qualified full-time, part-time, and seasonal employee, if a current internal applicant is considered to be the most competent and qualified individual to fill the position.

    With department head approval, employees will be allowed to transfer between divisions and departments to fill vacancies within the same or similar job classification.

    All advertisements for employment shall contain the words: "Equal Opportunity Employer" and employment applications shall contain the clause "Equal Opportunity Employer" in addition to a voluntary equal opportunity employment questionnaire segment.

    All applicants are required to provide information requested on the employment application provided by the city.

Ord. No. 72-2016, § I(Exh. A), adopted Aug. 16, 2016, repealed the former § 2-377 and enacted a new section as set out herein. The former § 2-377 pertained to similar subject matter and derived from Ord. No. 72-2011, § I(Exh. A), adopted Dec. 20, 2011.
