§ 2-383. Immigration reform and control.

  • In order to comply with the provisions of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 the City has adopted the following procedures:

    A.

    Individuals hired after November 6 th , 1986, must complete an I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form, as amended. The City shall retain the completed Form I-9 and photocopies of the supporting documentation for three (3) years after the effective date of hire, or for one (1) year from the date of the employee's separation from service, whichever is later.

    Form I-9 and copies of supporting documentation shall not be used for any purpose or provided to any agency or person other than for the purpose of complying with the requirements of the Act.

    Should an employee be rehired or reinstated by the City within one (1) year of the date of separation, the Employer may use the original I-9 Form and supporting documentation for the purpose of complying with the Act.
