§ 2-385. Employee orientation and training.

  • Each new full-time arid regular part-time employee shall receive access to the city's personnel policy manual and a copy of the job description that applies to his/her job. Each department head shall either acquaint or designate another employee to acquaint new employees with personnel policies (i.e., pay, insurance, vacation, sick leave, and other related benefits.} The department head, or designee, shall also be responsible for orienting the new employee with his/her department and job responsibilities.

    Employment statement: Each employee shall complete an employee statement form (Form #14), during their orientation, documenting their beginning salary/wage and the employees date of hire.

    Training evaluation: Each department head shall periodically examine current and proposed training programs to ensure their relevance to both the present and projected staffing needs, and the identified training needs of the employees.

    On-the-job training (OJT): On-the-job training prepares an employee to effectively perform the responsibilities required of his/her position. It allows the employee to learn his/her job duties, correct procedures, and expected performance levels under the immediate direction of an experienced worker and/or supervisor. The context of such training is the responsibility of department heads or their designees.

    Seminars and job-related training programs: When the budget permits, employees may be permitted to attend seminars and other job-related training programs at the expense of the city. The advanced authorization of the employer is required before an employee can attend such a seminar or other related program.

Ord. No. 110-2017 , § III(Exh. C), adopted Nov. 21, 2017, repealed the former § 2-385 and enacted a new section as set out herein. The former § 2-385 pertained to similar subject matter and derived from Ord. No. 72-2011, § I(Exh. A), adopted Dec. 20, 2011.
