§ 2-501. Purpose.

(a)

The City of Effingham developed this identity protection policy (hereinafter referred to as "policy") pursuant to the Illinois Identity Protection Act (hereinafter referred to as the "Act") as codified at 5 ILCS 179/1 et seq.

(b)

The Act requires each local and state government agency to draft, approve, and implement an identity protection policy to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of social security numbers against unauthorized use.

(c)

This policy is designed to ensure the confidentiality of social security numbers and to prevent against unauthorized use of social security numbers. All city officers, employees and agents shall comply with the Illinois Identity Protection Act and this policy at all times.
