§ 7-82. Permits; inspection fee.

  • (a)

    Before any electrical work shall be performed in conjunction with new construction within the city limits, the owner, or the electrical contractor as the owner's agent, shall apply for a permit and pay the appropriate fee. Before any interior premises electrical work shall be performed in conjunction with remodeling, enlarging or alteration of a existing structure, which require a new service cable or cables to be installed, from the service equipment of that structure to a fixture or appliance, a permit will be required. The permit application shall be made to and the permit issued by the office of the building official or other designated city office. Permits shall expire at the end of one (1) year if work has not commenced.

    (b)

    Permits for the installation or alteration of electrical equipment shall be issued only upon receipt of an application therefor, made out on a printed form to be furnished by the office of the building official; and upon the payment in advance of the inspection fee herein required.

    (c)

    The application for permit shall contain the name of the owner or user of the equipment to be installed or altered, the location by street and number of such installation, and a detailed description of the equipment to be installed or altered.

    (d)

    The fees prescribed by the city council to be paid for inspections of all electrical equipment installed or altered within the city shall be in those amounts as set forth in the city's building, electrical, and plumbing comprehensive fee schedule, as may be amended from time to time.

    (e)

    Electrical permit fees for buildings or structures owned by Effingham County, Douglas Township, Unit 40 School District, Effingham Park District, Effingham Library, and the City of Effingham are hereby waived.
