§ 24-60. Underground leaks/toilet leaks.

Latest version.
  • (a)

In case of underground leaks that have been verified by the public works department, when said leaks cause a customer's monthly water bill to be more than twice the average monthly water bill (based on bills for the prior twelve-month period), the customer's monthly water bill shall be adjusted to be twice the average month water bill. This policy only applies to residential and commercial water lines where the water is for normal use and not lines where the water is used for irrigation, filling of swimming pools, etc., and where no sewer charges are normally applied. This adjustment policy also does not apply to mobile home parks. This adjustment policy also does not apply to leaks due to, in the opinion of the director of the department of public works, negligence such as, but not limited to, excavations without a JULIE dig number or the lack of protection from below freezing temperatures.

    (b)

In case of a toilet leak, when said leak causes a customer's monthly water bill of more than twice the average monthly water bill (based on bills for the prior twelve-month period), the customer's monthly water bill shall be adjusted to be twice the average month water bill. This policy applies to residential and commercial accounts. This water bill adjustment is limited to once per calendar year.
