§ 2-427. Computer operation and procedures.

  • (a)

    No food or beverages are to be placed on or near the hardware or software.

    (b)

    No smoking is permitted near the computer.

    (c)

    An air conditioned working environment is recommended for the computer hardware.

    (d)

    Telephones must be at least two (2) feet from the computer disks and the hard drive. Other magnetic devices should be kept away from the computer, disks and tapes.

    (e)

    All computers and peripheral equipment must be plugged into a surge protection unit. Noncomputer electrical devices should not be plugged into the same surge protection outlet or wall plug with the surge protection device. Only grounded electrical outlets are to be used.

    (f)

    Illegal copying of software is not permitted.

    (g)

    No hardware or software may be removed from the city's premises without permission of the city clerk/network supervisor.

    (h)

    No software may be installed on the computer, unless authorized by the city clerk/network supervisor.

    (i)

    All computers shall be backed up (tape or diskette backup) on a minimum weekly basis and will be the responsibility of a person assigned by the department head.

    (j)

    All hardware/software problems should be reported to the city clerk/network supervisor.

    (k)

    No non-city-owned peripheral devices may be installed or connected to any computer unless authorized by the city clerk/network supervisor.
